FINMECCANICA bags €3.5 BILLION contract to supply Italian naval vessels

Publish Date : 11-May-2015

Finmeccanica has secured a contract worth €3.5 billion (Ł2.6bn) for building six new patrol vessels for Italy’s navy, with the option of four more.

The contract will also see the company delivering a logistical support unit and a landing unit as part of the contract, which is being taken on alongside the Fincantieri shipbuilding company.

It is expected that the delivery of the logistic support unit will be carried out in 2019, with the first patrol vessel expected to be delivered in 2021. All remaining patrol vessels are expected to be delivered between 2022 and 2025.

The work is covered by Italy’s so-called Naval Law, which has freed up €5.4bn for fleet renewal, with Fincantieri expected to provide logistical support for 10 years.

Other companies engaged in the project are electronic warfare firm Elettronica and MBDA missiles.
