JUNE 2015 : DOTC to award MRT multi-disciplinary contract
Publish Date : 13-May-2015
In June, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) would likely award a multi-disciplinary contract for the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).
According to DOTC, the 6-month, P342 million contract will cover various components to address issues hounding the mass transit system.
Transportation Sec. Jun Abaya said, “We are awarding a multi-discipline contract for six months in June since the month-on-month contract is no longer feasible.”
The contract includes seven components, viz automated fare collection system (AFCS); building facilities and equipment; communications; conveyance; rolling stock; power supply; and tracks and permanent ways.
According to Abaya, during peak hours, MRT’s maintenance provider APT Global is able to deploy only eight to 10 trains instead of the required 20 trains.
Under the P3.8 billion contract for 48 brand new light rail vehicles, arrival of a prototype train from Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock of China is expected in August.
The additional trains would likely ensure the arrival of trains every 2.5 minutes.
