On Tuesday, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation received good response from local and international companies, also including Chinese firms, for construction of the 33.5-km Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-III corridor. In all, 31 bids were received from nine consortiums for the ambitious project, which has been divided into seven packages.
The package or stretch open for bidding included Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate and Hutatma Chowk stretch; CST, Metro, Kalabadevi, Girgaon and Grant Road stretch; Central Metro, Mahalaxmi, Science Museum, Worli, Acharya Atre Chowk stretch; Siddhivinayak, Dadar, Sitaladevi stretch; Dharavi, BKC, Vidyanagari, Santacruz stretch; Domestic Airport, Sahar Airport, International Airport stretch; and the Marol Naka, MIDC, SEEPZ and Aarey Depot stretch.
For the first four packages there were four bidders each and five, seven and three bidders for the next three packages respectively.
MMRC managing director Ashwini Bhide said, “The response is encouraging. It also indicates the kind of confidence bidders have in the government and its agency. The Metro-III corridor will certainly reduce the congestion in the suburban railway and avoid unfortunate loss of life due to congestion. It is high time we respect human life.”
M/s AFCONS Infrastructure Ltd/Kyivmetrobud; M/s Continental Engineering Corporation/ITD Cementation India Ltd/Tata Projects Ltd; M/s DOGUS/SOMA and M/s IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company Ltd/China Railway 25th Bureau Group Co Ltd. were some of the consortiums which filed the 31 bids.
