On Monday, the National Environment Agency (NEA) called a tender for a two-year food waste management pilot to be run at two hawker centres here.

The pilot will be conducted at Tiong Bahru Market and Ang Mo Kio Block 628 Market.

Main objective is to "test the economic viability and operational feasibility of food waste segregation and recycling in hawker centres".

Launch is expected during the fourth quarter of this year.

These two hawker centres each generate nearly 1 tonne of food waste per day and its selection was done depending upon the number and mix of stall types and also the space available for food recycling facilities.
