Eying major shipbuilding and ship repair projects, the Cochin Shipyard is accelerating its infrastructure expansion plans. As part of the plan a tender to select a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for a proposed larger dry dock will be issued in a month.

The new dry dock will be sited in the north estate of the yard campus.
Measuring nearly 300-m in length and 75-m in width, the new dry dock, would cost approximately Rs. 1,300 crore.

It has been proposed to fast-track the yard's growth in the coming decades. The company said, "We will issue the tender anytime now with the aim of appointing a consultant to start working on the DPR by August."
