United States : Ex-Metro general counsel's consulting deal terminated
Publish Date : 13-Jun-2015
Hours after concerns were raised about whether the deal breached a Metro ban on hiring former workers within a year of their leaving, a consulting contract offered to Metro's general counsel in January — on the same day she left the agency — was abruptly ended Thursday.
Metro's general counsel, Kathryn Pett, resigned on Jan. 23, only to be reappointed that day as a board consultant.
In a letter written to Mortimer L. Downey, chairman of Metro's board, Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete K. Rahn asked Metro to explain its decision.
Rahn, who just recently came to know of the deal, said the contract "brought to light a litany of very concerning procurement irregularities."
Metro officials said they will not release a copy of Pett's deal, payment terms or a details about the work she was paid for.
However, Metro's procurement office abruptly scrapped the deal Thursday through an e-mail to Pett.
