Publish Date : 17-Jun-2015
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 8 (DENR-8) recognized partner industries in Eastern Visayas who showed consistent excellence in meeting the highest environmental standards.
Awardees of Plaque of Recognition during the 28th DENR Anniversary Celebration on June 10, 2015 were the Green Core Geothermal Inc. - Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant, Petron-Ormoc Depot, and the Petron-Tacloban Depot.
The Green Core Geothermal Inc. - Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant was awarded for consistently receiving the DENR Official Seal of Approval under the Philippine Environment Partnership Program (PEPP) for four consecutive years.
Likewise, Petron - Ormoc Depot was given the DENR Official Seal of Approval in 2014 for complying with environmental standards and voluntary self-regulation in its operation while Petron - Tacloban Depot received the DENR Official Seal of Approval in 2013 and 2014 for implementing mandatory self-monitoring and compliance with environmental standards in its operation.
DENR Regional Director Leonardo Sibbaluca said that the agency is grateful to industries that help mitigate the ill-effects of climate change by making sure they comply with environmental standards.
Speaking before the awardees, Director Sibbaluca said that “we should be partners in ensuring good environmental condition for the community, we will do this hand-in-hand.”
The DENR, in partnership with Philippine Environment Partnership Program (PEPP), awards the Official Seal of Approval to industries which are fully compliant with all applicable laws, have no cases pending or filed with the Pollution Adjudication Board for three years prior to their application, and have shown superior environmental performance.
