South Africa : ICASA permits Vodacom's 7 billion-rand bid for NEOTEL

Publish Date : 18-Jun-2015

ICASA has confirmed Vodacom Group's 7 billion-rand offer to purchase broadband supplier Neotel.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, which has been considering the proposition for around a year, will permit Vodacom to continue with the contract.

The regulator's Chairman Stephen Mncube said the procurement will be liable to agreeability with a nearby proprietorship law and adherence to terms of the roll out of broadband base and facilities.

Vodacom says that it will operate with ICASA to nail down the conditions of the confirmation.

Vodacom, 65% possessed via England-based Vodafone Group, consented to purchase Neotel from Tata Communications of India in May 2014.

The contract would empower Vodacom to augment Internet facilities for small-to-medium estimated businesses. South Africa's Competition Commission has yet to manage on the contract.
