Georgia : KHIDASHELI signs procurement deal to strengthen GEORGIA's air defenses
Publish Date : 18-Jun-2015
In order to strengthen Georgia's air defenses, Minister of Defense Tina Khidasheli has finally inked a procurement agreement with a company in France.
Signing the agreement in France on June 15, Khidasheli said the pact 'has been subject to so much discussion.'
Details of the deal are confidential.
For although she thanked both of her forerunners for initiating the process, the deal has been signed after 7 months of controversy, with a former defense minister alleging his partners in the governing Georgian Dream coalition of seeking to scrap it.
The minister said, "I want to emphasize that Georgia was offered the possibility of strengthening its security and defense capabilities, which is very important."
She added, "The conditions of the agreement are quite acceptable. I am sure that it is only beginning of a very long process that will lead to the further development of Georgia's defensive potential."
