Philippines : DOLE-SoLeyte releases P1.135-M BUB projects to generate more employment in Tomas Oppus

The provincial office of the Department of Labor and Employment here released P1.135 million worth of projects identified by the community folks which would redound to generate more employment in the municipality of Tomas Oppus.

“Some 75 community folks will be gainfully employed in the said municipality following the release of the financial grant to Bottoms-Up Budgeting (BuB) funded projects identified in 2014,” Provincial Filed Office Head Fe Norma Valuis disclosed to PIA.

Valuis said the following projects identified were: Motorcycle Spareparts Trading as proposed by the 20 beneficiaries of the Sogod-Bontoc Tomas Oppus Drivers and Operators Association, Inc (SOBTODA) in the amount of P 469,000.00; and bangus production in cages to 30 beneficiaries of the Looc Fisherfolks Association (LOFA) to the tune of P469,000.00.

In addition, 25 beneficiaries of the Starter Kit Individual for various identified projects amounted to P286,000.00, she added.

She said the BuB program is intended for the workers in the informal sector only since those working in the government service could not avail of the said program.

As of this writing, while the said funds were already released to the municipality and the procurement of the materials are still underway, the schedule for the formal turn-over of the three BuB -funded projects is indefinitely postponed, Valuis said further.

She noted that those mentioned projects were identified and proposed under 2014 BUB funds yet.
