Publish Date : 16-Jul-2015

Pasadena-based Jacobs Engineering Group Inc declared that it has secured an engineering and procurement contract for Monsanto Co.'s proposed $1 billion expansion of its Luling plant.

"The company brings vast experience with chemical projects and strong presence in the U.S. Gulf Coast, including a Baton Rouge office, to the project," said Group Vice President Manuel Junco.

According to Monsanto, the project is so large that will take three to five years for completion.

Monsanto stated that in mid 2016, it will settle on a last spending choice. Luling plant with this extension will be able to produce more dicamba, an herbicide used in protecting crops.

Monsanto is focusing dicamba-based Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System products for initial use in soybean and cotton crops.

St. Louis-based Monsanto announced plans for the proposed expansion in early July.
