Publish Date : 22-Jul-2015

Mexico's Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) has got an aggregate of 39 EoI (expressions of interest) to start and operate a national shared mobile broadband network on the 700 MHz band.

The EoI “submitted by firms and institutions from different parts of the world… address aspects related to the design, financing, deployment, operation and marketing of Red Compartida [Shared Network],” said the SCT in an announcement, including that it had introduced a devoted portal (www.redcompartida.gob.mx) including all the data regarding the venture.

The ministry added that minimum 90 MHz of 700 MHz band will be auctioned to cover a minimum of 98% of the people by 2018.

The SCT is targeting to introduce the corresponding tender in Q4 of the year and grant the permits in the Q1 of 2016.

Keen suppliers consist Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Cisco Systems, Huawei, Nokia, China Telecom, Motorola Solutions and Alestra.

In May the ministry declared that the price of the initiative had been minimized from USD 10 billion to USD 7 billion over the following 10 years, with the private sector considering majority of the price of installing few 12,000 base stations.
