Turkey : TURKEY plans to take over Reconnaissance And Observation Aircraft

Publish Date : 05-Aug-2015

A new deal to buy reconnaissance and observation aircraft has received approval from Turkey’s procurement authorities.

A request was issued by procurement agency, the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) for information (RfI) to which potential bidders must reply no later than Aug. 12. The RfI sets that the demanded aircraft will be “manned.” It did not disclosed the number of aircraft to be purchased. But procurement sources stated five aircraft in total would be acquired.

It is anticipated by Turkish military that the planned aircraft would support its unmanned aircraft in reconnaissance missions. The aircraft would be run by Turkish land forces.

The deal would need aircraft and their systems integration, comprising electro-optical sensors, systems operators and data links, plus logistical support.

The overall value of the deal would be around $50 million for all five aircraft, excluding logistical support services.
