India : STATE CABINET earmarks Rs.300 crore for rubber procurement
Publish Date : 07-Aug-2015
The State Cabinet has decided to set aside Rs.300 crore for rubber procurement in the present season.
It also decided to bring latex under the purchase scheme in view of the instability in its prices.
The Cabinet also decided to relax the norms for farmers seeking to join the scheme, but did not have the valid documents like title deeds. Although a majority of these people were actual farmers, they did not have any title deed to avail the benefits. The government will be accepting any document verifying the status of the farmer beneficiary.
In his post-Cabinet briefing, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, said the rubber procurement scheme was successful. The minimum purchase price of Rs.150 a kg was able to guard the rubber cultivator from price crash.
The Rs.300-crore assignment had been made in view of the further burden the State government will have to incur due to the crash in prices. Prices were ruling high when the rubber purchase scheme was announced, in the case of latex. Requiring some kind of assistance, latex prices were also fluctuating presently.
He said latex prices would be fixed soon after the Finance Secretary holds talks with the stakeholders.
