Oman : OMAN announces tender for temporary water desalination plants
Publish Date : 11-Aug-2015
The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has announced a tender to set up temporary water desalination plants to meet the Sultanates growing water demand.
The selected company will be responsible to produce water until a couple of major new projects go on stream. The authorities were compelled to look for various other measures to tackle the situation, citing the recent shortage of water supply in several areas in the Muscat region.
Within the next five years, demand for potable water in Omans northern region, including the Muscat governorate, is expected to grow by 6% per annum, from 238 million cubic metres in 2013 to 349 million cubic metres by 2020. Ever growing population, new hotels and industries are some of the factors which drives an increase in demand for water.
According to the tender announcement from Oman Power and Water Procurement Company, five companies had submitted bids to provide the temporary water solutions services: Aflaj Al Khaleej Trading & Contracting Company, Osmoflow, Seven Seas, House of Trading and Services and Advanced Oilfield Technology.
