Government awarded a total of E2.3 billion tenders in 3 months for the supply of goods and services in various industries. The ministry of finance first quarter performance report 2015/16, says that at least, over E551million was awarded to foreign firms.

The external businesses were awarded tenders in public works aggregating E1.2 million, pharmaceutical and medical supplies contract was valued at E510 million, plant and vehicles tenders was E3.4 million, while goods and services were at E36 million.

According to the report, domestic companies share in the E2.3 billion tenders was E1.79 billion with public works companies taking more than E1.5 billion, pharmaceutical and medical supplies businesses were able to net about E193 million.

While goods and services firms were awarded tenders aggregating E38.8 million, plant and vehicles were awarded tenders totalling E1.8 million. In the meantime, the Swaziland Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (SPPRA) stated that, in a bid to promote financial capacity and the competitiveness of businesses in the country, steps would be initiated to ease participation of domestic companies in public procurement.

Government would introduce the steps to promote domestic companies and according to the service providers in public procurement.
Foreign firms will also be encouraged to subcontract with Swazi companies by publishing indicative notices of proposed procurement, especially for high value contracts which may include subcontracting opportunities.
