Oman : OPWP : 7 consortiums submits bids for construction of OMAN's largest independent water project

As many as seven consortiums have submitted bids for construction of Oman's largest independent water project(IWP).
Development of the desalination plant will over two locations in Barka and Sohar, with a total combined production capacity of 530,000 m3/d of water.
Oman Power and Water Procurement Co (OPWP), stated that the seven consortiums who have submitted bids includes Abengoa Water SL (with National Power and Water Co and Muscat Overseas LLC); GS Inima Environment SA (with GS Engineering and Construction, Acciona Aqua and Oman Investment Corporation); Hyflux (on its own); Itochu Corporation (with Degremont, International Power SA Dubai branch, and WJ Towell and Co); JGC Corporation (with Sojit Corporation); Valoriza Agua SL (with Oman Brunei Investment Co and Sogex Oman); and, Veolia Middle East (with Marubeni Corporation and Nippon Koei).
OPWP selected eight consortiums in the month of June, for the main tender. The Abengoa, GDF Suez (now Engie), Hyflux, Valoriza and Veolia consortiums had qualified unconditionally, while conditionally qualified firms were GS Inima, Itochu and JGC Corporation.
Awarding of the contract is expected in this November and commercial operations at both sites will be targeted for 2018.
According to Oman Power and Water Procurement Co (OPWP), in the northern region, comprising the Interconnected Zone and Sharqiyah Zone, the water demand is expected to increase by 6% per year, from 226 million m3 in 2015 to 328 million m3 in 2021.
