Canada : GOVT. continues to work on procurement policies expected to get figured out by SEPTEMBER end

Publish Date : 22-Aug-2015

Don't hold your breath on the timeline, although the government is continuing to work on procurement policies it had expected to get figured out by the end of September.

The minister responsible for SaskBuilds, Gordon Wyant, is "hopeful (Priority Saskatchewan) will be able to meet our target for a number of items," but admits "some will take longer"

According to him, industry is "not going to hold us to some arbitrary timelines weve set, if were not going to get it right."

To "get it right" means consultation about how state agencies award contracts.

Wyant thinks talks with industry are "going very well," but a few industry folk recently jointly inked a letter to he and other ministers, saying it was "absolutely imperative that government becomes much more staunchly engaged in meaningful and proactive dialogue with industry."

Among that group was Mark Cooper, president of the Saskatchewan Construction Association.

Speaking with him, though, he says current talks with government are "very collaborative."

Cooper says, "I feel like anytime I need to pick up the phone, theyre really receptive to that."
