Namibia : NAMINIAN Military seeks road construction contract

Publish Date : 24-Aug-2015

Secretive Namibian army firm August 26 Holdings has announced a N$1 billion bid for construction of the second part of the highway between Windhoek and Okahandja.

The company is among 22 other firms bidding for the work. Together, there are 15 Chinese firms in joint ventures with Namibians. South African companies are also involved.

Bids for the 28 kilometre carriageway ranges from the lowest N$719 million to around N$1,2 billion. The tender is to rehabilitate and upgrade a dual carriageway between the Dobra River and the Omakunde interchange.

August 26 has partnered with Quindao Construction and has quoted the government N$1 billion for the work.

However, still it is not known which specific company under the August 26 banner targets the billion-dollar road contract as the military has around six subsidiaries through August 26 Holdings, a defence ministry-owned company formed by military generals in 1998.
