Australia : BUNDABERG Regional Council demonstrates new procurement system

Publish Date : 02-Sep-2015

In order to provide suppliers and local businesses with the opportunity to register online as providers of goods and services, BUNDABERG Regional Council has opened a new procurement system.
Council buys nearly $50 million in goods and services annually and has encouraged local businesses to register through the new system.

Deputy Mayor and council spokesman for governance Cr David Batt said the BRC ProcureIT system would enable the council to establish its own panel arrangements to shortlist providers of goods and services that are regularly bought and used by Council. He said, "Suppliers and local businesses will now be able to register for acceptance as a panel provider through BRC ProcureIT. BRC ProcureIT has been implemented with the aim of streamlining the panel application process and managing ongoing compliance required by council once the panels are established."

He noted that the portal enabled council staff to send quote requests directly through to their suppliers who are alerted through SMS and email of the request. He added, "Each supplier panel gives council staff the ability to rate and review suppliers based on experience and share this information amongst team members."

ProcureIT spokeswoman Sasha Lincoln said with the platform, procurement processes would become easier to manage. She added, "Project collaboration between staff members and teams makes sharing information and reviewing supplier performance simple and easily accessible at all times."
