Brazil,Italy : ENEL Green Power puts online first Hybrid plant in Brazil

Publish Date : 02-Sep-2015

Enel Green Power (EGP) has completed and connected to the grid Brazils first hybrid plant by commissioning Fontes Solar I and II, its first solar power plants in Brazil. The two facilities have been built alongside and combined with EGPs 80 MW Fontes dos Ventos wind farm, which is already in operation.

Fontes Solar I and II, located in the state of Pernambuco in north-eastern Brazil, have an overall installed capacity of 11 MW, making them Brazils largest solar complex. The pair can generate over 17 GWh each year.

The combination of solar and wind power will ensure more stable energy production and reduce the effects of variability in weather conditions. The hybrid will generate approximately 340 GWh per year equivalent to the annual energy needs of around 170,000 Brazilian households.

EGP has invested a total of approximately 18 million US dollars in the construction of Fontes Solar I and II, which are supported by a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) awarded to Enel Green Power through a tender process in December 2013. The energy generated by the plants will be delivered to Pernambuco state.

With Fontes Solar I and II online, EGPs total installed capacity in Brazil now amounts to 388 MW. Following the successful tender wins also announced today for 553 MW of installed capacity in addition to the 254 MW of solar capacity awarded in the November 2014 tender, EGP is now the largest player across the entire solar industry in Brazil.
