Cayman Islands : New CPO director to present draft of proposed legislation to deal with public contracts, major procurement
Publish Date : 11-Sep-2015
The government's recently appointed director of the Central Procurement Office (CPO), Craig Milley, will present a draft of the proposed legislation to tackle public contracts, major procurement and government acquisition to the Chamber of Commerce next week.
The new legislation, which aims to tighten up on government's major spending after years of criticism from the Office of the Auditor General about the poor management of public spending on major projects.
Milley, a Canadian national who served as the procurement services manager for the City of Lethbridge for over 8 years, was appointed by the Cayman government to lead the new department in February 2015.
As part of the Chamber's 'Be Informed' series next Thursday, 17 September, beginning at 3 pm, Milley will be joined by Peter Gough, a long-time senior public servant who is the strategic advisor to Deputy Governor Franz Manderson.
The new law is designed to enhance the system and the process surrounding government procurement to ensure better value for money, as well as to generate more openness, transparency and remove the suspicions that state contracts are subject to political influence or potential abuse.
