India : IRCTC floated tenders for Executive Lounge development project

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has planned to establish a nationwide network of Executive Lounges and moving further towards this strategy, it has recently issued tenders seeking offers from interested parties. IRCTC, the PSU of Indian Railways, has decided to set up its Executive Lounges, which will similar to the airport lounges in terms of looks and service offerings, at 19 railway stations in India.

These lounges will deliver affordable services to the passengers of Indian Railways. IRCTC has planned set up these Executive Lounge facilities at Jaipur, Vijayawada, Agra Cantt, New Delhi, Kathgodam, Patna, Sealdah, Howrah, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, Puri, Nagpur, Madurai, Bengaluru, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Lucknow and Gorakhpur stations.

IRCTC has decided to take the final call on the tenders next month. It plans to make these facilities operational within the next January/February. The Executive Lounges will deliver a range of services similar to airports, comprising wash and change, Wi-Fi, Internet, Live TV, channel music, buffet services, newspaper/bookstand, luggage racks, shoe shiner, train information system and concierge services for pre-departure and post-arrival assistance to rail passengers.

IRCTC CMD Dr. A K Manocha revealed, The swanky executive lounges, which will be a state-of-the -art facilities, can help the train passengers recover from tiredness during the journey. Also, waiting for a train will no longer be an ordeal. It is expected that the corporation will set up another batch of 30 executive lounges by one year.

The move will significantly transform the status of these rail stations in terms of passenger facilities after the Executive Lounges start operation. The Indian Railways will spot space at the stations, and then hand over the same to its arm to facilitate establishment of the lounges.
