Australia : SEDGMAN secures $145-million deal from BHP Billiton

Publish Date : 26-Sep-2015

A $145-million deal has been secured by joint venture between project houses Sedgman and Civmec Construction & Engineering from BHP Billiton.

The engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning deal included the civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and commissioning work for the set up of a new primary crusher and additional conveyor capacity at Jimblebar.

In April,2014, the $3.2-billion mine was formally inaugurated, and was expected to supply a phase one capacity of 35-million tonnes a year by the end of 2015.

Longer term, a low cost option to expand Jimblebar to 55-million tonnes a year and the broader debottlenecking of BHPs supply chain was expected to underpin capital efficient growth in its Western Australian iron ore capacity to around 260-million tonnes to 270-million tonnes a year.
