Australia : Construction Tender Open for the new Loxton Research Centre building

Publish Date : 14-Oct-2015

Tenders have been called for the redevelopment of the Loxton Research Centre.Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said a $7.5 million allocation within the South Australian River Murray Sustainability (SARMS) programme will be used to redevelop the Loxton Research Centre into a hub for key industry, research, education, business and support entities. This redevelopment will establish the Loxton Research Centre as the nexus of South Australian irrigation research and innovation, and will help revitalise the states economy through new opportunities for investment, Mr Truss said.

Not only will this redevelopment attract new ideas, but it will establish Loxton as a key regional location for national and international conferences, bringing delegates and their tourism dollars to the region. The tender for the new building is also part of a major boost for construction in South Australia, with the entire SARMS investment supporting the creation of around 1,500 regional jobs.

South Australian Minister for Regional Development Geoff Brock said the $7.5 million in funding was being spent on a new state-of- the-art Centre for Industry Innovation, industry engagement and refurbishment of existing buildings.Tenders will be conducted in line with the State Governments Industry Participation Policy, which helps small and medium South Australian businesses win government contracts, Mr Brock said.

Once complete, this new building will provide opportunities to showcase the entire South Australian River Murray regions competitive edge in irrigation and will build on South Australias reputation as international leaders in agricultural research and innovation.

By bringing together industry knowledge, ideas, science and technology, we will see faster adoption of technologies, speedier access to analytical services, resulting in more productive and profitable enterprises.

The redeveloped Loxton Research Centre underpins the socio-economic outcomes of SARMS and the Basin Plan implementation within the South Australian River Murray region. It supports the region to build on its global reputation for producing premium food and wine from our clean environment. The redevelopment of the Loxton Research Centre forms part of the $25 million Regional Economic Development element of the $265 million SARMS programme.
