Zimbabwe : AFDB to award $37 million Water and Sanitation grant to BULAWAYO COUNCIL

A $37 million grant to the Bulawayo City Council for water supply and sanitation ventures is been awarded by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Bulawayo has been encountering perennial water shortages that has been a feature to accelerating needs.

As per the council, if sanctioned by the banks board, the venture might be executed over a phase of 48 months, between January 2016 and December 2019.

The report said, The AfDB is finalising the project proposal and council has been tasked with the following deliverables: to identify a dedicated team of staff who will work on the project for the next four years, to compile and finalise the TORs (terms of reference) for the project technical and procurement experts who shall be hired by City of Bulawayo for the duration of the project to the banks conditions.

The government and council will donate 10% of the venture in hard money or in kind.

Council has been operating with the AfDB to build a 4 year $37,07 million water and sanitation proposal from February this current year.

This being the results of the Water and Waste Water Master Plan, that a few years was presented to the same bank, as per the council.

A group from the city council has been operating, in accordance with the bank, to build the proposal, that was submitted to the Ministry of Finance in Harare.
