Zimbabwe : ZPC signs first EPC deal with Intrateck

Publish Date : 28-Oct-2015

Just a week after government has offered the 300 megawatt (MW) projects to three companies, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) has inked its first engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal with Intratrek Zimbabwe (Private) Limited (Intratrek).

The deal has been signed at a time when Harare is grappling with a 1 200MW deficit that has occasioned power outages of up to 18 hours across homes and industries, and company managing director Noah Gwariro says the ZESA arm needs $6 billion-plus to fully finance its developmental projects.

Group CEO Wicknell Chivayo said, "At Intratrek, power generation is our expertise. Our feasibility studies (will) commence next week and we hope to finish them soon. When we were honoured with such a massive project it is our obligation to ensure that we hit the ground running and deliver at all costs."

As the State Procurement Board insists that the "the accounting officer (ZPC) had recommended the award based on the principle of best advantage and cost differentials", Intratrek was given the order to build solar farms along ZTE Corporation (ZTE) and another Chinese-linked company Number 17 Metallurgical Construction (Number 17).
