The Tasmanian Governments $7.1 million investment in Kings Meadows High School will reinvigorate the learning environment, while driving economic growth and jobs in the North. This investment is part of the Governments $68 million Reinvigorating Tasmanian High Schools program, which is being rolled out over four years.

The project will ensure Tasmanians have a contemporary learning environment where they have the greatest opportunity to explore their passions and discover a path to their future career. It is also part of a strategic investment in infrastructure that will drive economic growth and create jobs from planning to construction.

Already Launceston-based architects 6ty Pty Ltd have been engaged as the consulting architects for this project and they are working closely with the school around suitable design options. Today, a call for tenders for the multi-million dollar major refurbishment and construction of general learning areas and specialist facilities has been placed in all major newspapers.

The total investment in the high school includes $2.1 allocated in previous budgets, to undertake $3.1 million in works in 2015-16 and $4 million in 2016-17. The $7.1 million has been allocated for major refurbishments works at the school including new Year 9 and 10 learning areas and refurbishing Year 8 learning areas. It will also allow for a revamped Material, Design and Technology centre and Art facilities, as well as amenity facilities and new covered walkways. This project is subject to final approval by the Public Works Committee.
