Philippines : Smartmatic among 5 firms bidding for new Comelec deal

Smartmatic-Total Information Management (TIM) Inc., is among five companies, that have filed bid proposals to offer election results transmission services that will be used in the May 2016 elections.
Smartmatic, which also won the contracts to provide the over 90,000 new Optical Mark Reader (OMR) machines to be used in the polls next year, submitted a bid of P507.7 million.
Besides Smartmatic, other bidders include Ezcom Telecommunications Services and Solution Corp. which submitted a bid of P505 million; Arronet Solutions Integrator Inc., P2.11 billion; EdgeComm Inc., P549.4 million; and SOG Philippines Inc., P555 million.
The city/municipal, provincial, and national canvassing centers will use the electronic results transmission service (ERTS) system to to send and receive transmitted results of voting.
The service vendor will provide the system, equipment, and services of the ERTS.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chair Andres Bautista, said the Comelec sought the approval of the Government Procurement Policy Board to conduct negotiated procurement after two failed biddings for the P558-million project.
