Publish Date : 17-Nov-2015
The shortlist for Melbournes new High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) project has been announced, with the Evolution Rail consortium comprising Downer EDI, Changchun Railway Vehicles and Plenary Group as one of three consortia chosen to move into the next phase of the tender process.
The HCMT project is the largest investment in rolling stock in Victoria to date. 37 new high capacity trains and a depot will be delivered as an availability based public private partnership (PPP), providing a dedicated train fleet for the Cranbourne-Pakenham line in Melbournes southeast.
The project includes a local manufacturing element which will create up to 800 jobs during construction and up to 200 ongoing jobs for Victoria.
The Evolution Rail consortium will submit a formal proposal in the second quarter of 2016 with the tender process expected for completion before the end of 2016.
The first of the new trains are expected to be delivered in late 2018.
