Germany : RHEINMETALL GROUP to supply 35mm gun system to DANISH Navy
Publish Date : 18-Nov-2015
Germany's Rheinmetall Group will be supplying additional 35mm Oerlikin Millennium guns to the Royal Danish Navy.
Denmark's military procurement authorities placed an order worth about $21.5 million for the weapon, which is similar to the U.S. Navy's Phalanx system.
Spare parts and technical service forms part of the order for the weapons which are scheduled for shipping next year.
According to Rhinmetall, "Teamed with Rheinmetall's high-performance 35mm Ahead airburst ammunition, the Millennium gun gives the Danish Navy a close-range self-defense capability for protecting high-value assets that is second to none. A multi-purpose weapon system, it is also capable of neutralizing asymmetric and symmetric threats alike, whether on the surface or in the air."
Earlier in 2005, the Rheinmetall Group received an initial order from Denmark for the Oerlikon Millennium gun.
The guns would likely be installed on the Danish Navy's Absalon-class transport ships and/or the new Iver Huitfeldt-class frigate, and will be managed by SaabTech CEROS fire control systems and Terma command and control technology.
