With the procurement of further equipment at a cost of US$1.09 million, the operating capacity of the Kingston Container Terminal (KCT) is to be significantly improved.

Minister responsible for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, who said this during a Jamaica House media briefing on November 11, said Cabinet has agreed to offer two contracts for the supply and commissioning of 13 pieces of equipment.

The first is a US$587,223 contract to Cargotec Ltd. to deliver and commission into service, five Bromma Crane Spreaders for the KCT.

The minister said, "Crane Spreaders are attached to containers and are used in the process of loading and unloading container vessels. The twin lift spreaders enable the crane to lift two containers at the same time, thus ensuring higher efficiency and productivity."
