Publish Date : 19-Nov-2015
Under a government-to-government (G2G) deal, the government will import 0.6 million tonnes of urea fertiliser from Qatar.
Toward this end, the cabinet committee on public procurement is set to approve a plan to import urea from the Middle East country on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) had inked a deal with 'Muntajat', a state-owned company of Qatar, to import 0.2 million tonnes of bagged prilled (farm), 0.2 million tonnes of bagged granular and 0.2 million tonnes of bulk granular (optional) urea fertiliser from the Gulf state.
Bangladesh started buying urea from Qatar in 2007. The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has set a goal to procure 2.8 million tonnes of urea in the fiscal year (FY) 2015-16. Of the total, over 1.3 million tonnes of urea will be bought from other countries while the rest will come from local fertiliser plants.
