United States : CPUC approves Southern California Edison's procurement deals
Publish Date : 20-Nov-2015
The California Public Utilities Commission has sanctioned several procurement deals for Southern California Edison, including contracts with a San Francisco startup established by a former commission member.
The commission unanimously approved a plan Edison submitted in response to commission orders for the procurement of up to 2,500 megawatts of new energy.
Four of the 80 or so deals are with limited-liability companies owned by Advanced Microgrid Solutions, a company founded by former Commissioner Susan Kennedy. Kennedy earlier served as chief of staff to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a top aide to Gov. Gray Davis.
Moments before the approval, Commissioner Michel Florio said, "It has been a long trek, but Im very happy weve got some contracts now."
The utility proposed over 80 deals that include energy from solar sources, gas-fired plants and the technology being marketed by Kennedys company, power storage.
Although industry estimates have pegged the Advanced Microgrid share around $100 million, the price Edison is paying will not disclosed publicly for up to 3 years.
