Saudi Arabia : CONSULTANTS working on bids for owner's engineer contract on proposes 3780MW Saudi power plant
Publish Date : 23-Nov-2015
Consultants are currently working on bids for the owners engineer contract on the proposed 3,780MW integrated solar and combined-cycle power plant (ISCC) in Taiba in the western Medina region of the kingdom.
30 November has been set as the current submission date for owners engineer bids, which would likely be extended due to consultants requesting additional time due to the large capacity of the planned Taiba scheme.
State utility Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) is in plans to develop the 3,780MW ISCC plant, whose construction is expected to cost nearly $3bn. SEC would likely procure and tender the project using the same model as it employed for the Duba 1 ISCC, currently under bid negotiation.
SEC for the Duba 1 scheme tendered two main contracts, one for the power block (under an original equipment manufacturer [OEM] contract) and another one for the EPC contract, which includes balance of plant procurement.
As far as the Taiba plant is concerned, already OEM firms have started working on submissions, and for the main EPC contract. Contractors were invited to purchase tender documents before September-end. The Taiba project will be the third ISCC that SEC has moved forward during this year.
