Kenya : Businessman sues to stop Mombasa port's crane procurement
Publish Date : 30-Nov-2015
A businessman has filed a petition to stop the procurement of cranes to be used at the Mombasa port.
The petition, which has been filed under a certificate of urgency, aims to challenge the Sh3 billion tender for the supply and commissioning of three ships-to-shore gantry cranes.
Maur Abdalla says the winning bidder has breached tender requirements and the cranes might be of poor quality, ripping the public out of multi-million shillings.
He noted that Liebherr Container Cranes has deviated from all the terms contained in the tender specification and contract.
Abdalla says instead, the vendor is now about to install substitute cranes of inferior type.
He said, "The subject three cranes have not been acquired according to the specification in the tender and procurement process."
Sitting in Malindi, Justice Said Chitembwe, certified the suit urgent and asked him to serve all the parties named ahead of the hearing on Monday.
