Avondale Construction Ltd has received tender for a two-storey, 2,700-square-metre building in Burnside Park, not far from the provincially run Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility.

The new facility would substitute the Carlton Community Correctional Facility Centre at 5853 College St. in Halifax that established more than 40 years ago, and the Carlton Centre Annex, a leased space on the fifth floor of 2044 Gottingen St. in Halifax that began taking parolees more than 20 years ago.

The tender states that the new plans demanded for a sprinklered steel-frame building, with a partial basement.

The work would also comprise of site grading, a new driveway and parking lot, new sidewalks, stairs and retaining walls, new landscape and connections to municipal services.

The building has been planned to be ready by December 2016.
