France : FRANCE places order for 7 additional Tiger attack helicopters

Publish Date : 26-Dec-2015

On Dec. 17, France has placed an order for additional seven Tiger attack helicopters, aiming at strengthening support for troops deployed against insurgents in sub-Saharan Africa, announced the defense procurement office.

The Direction Generale de lArmement ordered Dec. 17 2015 through the Organization Conjoint de Cooperation en Matiere dArmement (OCCAR) a further seven Tiger combat helicopters from Airbus Helicopters, said the DGA.

The aim is to strengthen the capability of the French forces to conduct air-land operations, particularly in the sub-Saharan Sahel region, the DGA added.

However, the value of the order, which was announced in May as part of the revised 2014-19 military budget law, was not revealed.

Delivery of the seven helicopters will take place between 2017-18. The Tigers will be the attack version, or helicoptere appui-destruction (HAD), equipped with a more powerful engine, better targeting system, additional combat external fuel tanks, and certified for Hellfire and Spike air-to-ground missiles in addition to the Mistral air-to-air weapon.
