Chile's Department of Telecommunications said, Telcordia has secured the contract to administer number portability for additional five years from August 2016.

For this work, the tender was announced in August 2015.

Since 2011, Telcordia has been managing number portability in Chile.

Over a period of four years, portability has grown by nearly 100 percent.

In 2012, the rate was at 3.0 percent, as against 3.1 percent for mobile and 1.9 percent for fixed telephony.

Currently, the estimated overall percentage is 7.5 percent, for a total of over 5 million portings.
