Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday stated that he will be taking the first ride on the corridor in 2019the expected deadline for its completion. Construction is scheduled to begin this year.
During a function held at the Sahyadri guesthouse, Fadnavis said, "MTHL will connect the eastern coast; it will be the link that brings Mumbai and Navi Mumbai closer.
He added, "As soon as an official notification of the permissions is issued, we will go for a financial closure of the project with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The agency is ready to fund MTHL at 1.4% rate of interest and tenders will be issued by March.
