Canada : BC Hydro inks deal with Peace River Hydro Partners for Main Civil Works contract

Publish Date : 12-Jan-2016

A deal has been signed by BC Hydro with Peace River Hydro Partners for the main civil works contract for the 1100MW Site C hydroelectric project.

The value of the deal has been affirmed at around $1.75 billion and comprises of an earthfill dam c, two diversion tunnels and a roller-compacted-concrete foundation construction for the generating station and spillways.

This work is expected to generate 8,000 person-years of employment over the eight-year deal, along with business opportunities for local, regional and Aboriginal businesses. Around 1,500 people would be working on main civil works at the peak of construction.

BC Hydro issued a Request for Qualifications in April 2014 and shortlisted four proponent teams to provide proposals for the main civil works contract. BC Hydro received proposals from all four teams in October 2015.

Peace River Hydro Partners was chosen as the preferred proponent for the main civil works deal on November 25, 2015.

ACCIONA Infrastructure Canada Inc., Petrowest Corporation and Samsung C&T Canada Ltd are Peace River Hydro Partners.
