Publish Date : 14-Jan-2016
Japan along with India on Tuesday has decided to provide support to the fast-growing South Asian nation to help it launch high-efficiency coal-fueled power generation and renewable energy technology there.
India will be carrying out a study jointly with Japan to choose the most excellent energy mix, or the percentage of electricity to be produced by a range of sources, according to a joint statement issued by the Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Motoo Hayashi and Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy of India.
Both Tokyo and New Delhi will look at the opportunity of procurement of natural gas in a joint manner, according to Hayashi and Goyal.
In view of Indias substantial dependence on coal-fueled thermal power facilities, Japan will too work together with India on a study to trim down emission of toxic gases.
The Japanese officials have revealed that Japan has strategy to offer its power generation equipment and technologies to India, which is witnessing considerable increase in power demand and aims to augment renewable energy generation capacity including solar power.
Since 2007, Japan and India have been carrying out meetings at the ministerial level related to the energy issues on a regular manner, and the meeting on Tuesday has been the eighth of such type between the two countries.
