Namibia : NAMPOWER to face lawsuit over solar tender

Publish Date : 16-Jan-2016

The Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy are facing one more lawsuit after it ignored and violated its own tender rules for awarding a tender for construction of a 30MW solar power station at a cost of about N$600 million.

This follows announcement by Mines Minister Obeth Kandjoze in December 2015 that government was going to embark on green energy.

This lawsuit is mainly due to NamPower's decision to change the tender's terms of reference midway through the tender, to allegedly favour one of the tenderers.

Enel Green Power Namibia, a subsidiary of Italian company Enel SpA, has dragged NamPower to court after the utility decided to change the tender specifications in a questionable and suspect manner.

Mines and energy minister and the PS, the Electricity Control Board CEO, and the NamPower CEO, are among the 12 listed respondents in the case.
