India : Kassia urges MSME Ministry to adopt public procurement policy along with price preference policy

Publish Date : 18-Jan-2016

Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (Kassia) has asked the Union MSME Ministry to adopt the public procurement policy together with the price preference policy.

The procurement policy aims to facilitate enhanced business fusion between premier public sector units and SMEs through proper marketing linkages.

Karnataka which has State PSUs, Mysore Electrical Industries and KSTRC, is also a base for Central public sector units (CPSUs) like HAL, BEML, BHEL, BEL, NMDC, South Western Railways, Rail Wheel Factory.

MSME-Development Institute, Bengaluru, Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC), Kassia and All Industry Associations of Karnataka will co-organize a two-day national vendor development programme-cum-industrial exhibition 'Indexpo' on January 20 and 21 at MSME Development Institute premises, Rajajinagar Industrial Estate here, supported by SIDBI, NSIC, KVIC and Coir Board.

VK Dikshit, President, Kassia, said,"Under the public procurement policy, Central public sector units have to procure at least 20 per cent of their requirement from micro and small enterprises. Out of the 20 per cent, a sub-target of 4 per cent (i.e. 20 per cent out of 20 per cent) should be earmarked for procurement from MSEs owned by SC/ST entrepreneurs. The Karnataka government has done it through a notification dated September 8, 2015."

Mohammad Mohsin, Managing Director, KSSIDC, added,"The MSMEs will have the rare opportunity to interact with the government departments, CPSUs and large-scale units on a single platform."

Director, MSME–DI, Bangalore, SN Rangaprasad, said,"During the event, more than 200 units from defence, aerospace, machine tools, CNC clusters, machine building, electronics, electrical, biotechnology, information technology and communication are to exhibit their competencies."
