Nigeria : BPP to start e-procurement by April 1

In order to reduce human interaction in the sector, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, has announced the bureau's plan to start e-procurement by 1st April.
Speaking at the 2016 Retreat on Public Procurement for Federal Permanent Secretaries in Lagos with theme 'The Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2007: An Effective Tool for Delivering More for Less, Ezeh, said the bureau will use technology to drive procurement processes and start e-procurement, particularly for commonly used items.
He said the bureau would also launch price intelligence that would be bench-marked against its data base to get value for money with adjustment in inflation periods. He said the bureau also plans to use administrative and judicial processes to tackle infractions.
According to him, the bureau had involved in capacity building for procurement professionals and others in other departments.
He noted that there was constant engagement with the Executives, National Assembly and civil society groups to build a consensus reform for the country.
He added that the bureau also opened centres for procurement at the Federal School of Technology at Owerri.
Ezeh said it achieved positive growth through the Office of the Head of Service and other stakeholders.
According to him, through the procurement reforms between 2009 and 2014, the government saved N680 billion.
He added that the new reforms in the sector had enhanced good governance.
