Publish Date : 22-Jan-2016
The Transport Ministry will be calling open tenders to purchase locomotives for Sri Lanka Railways, also allowing a German company to forward their bids, said Deputy Minister of Transport Ashoka Abeysinghe.
Besides India, the ministry wants to allow other bidders to forward their bids for this work.
During last month, the cabinet approved a proposal to procure 12 locomotives and 09 power sets to be operated in the upcountry line.
We told the German company who interested in this to forward their bids when we call the tenders. But they have to forward their bids including a credit line, Abeysinghe added.
A credit line is a credit source extended to a government that can be readily tapped at the borrowers discretion and Interest is paid only on money actually withdrawn.
The cabinet had earlier decided to purchase locomotives and carriages and to renovate the railway signal system using balance funds of US$40 million of the Northern Railway Development Project under Indian Loan Assistance Scheme.
