Publish Date : 23-Jan-2016

On Wednesday, the sub committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms was informed that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) plans to soon announce tender for procurement of 400 Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).

Federal Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid while briefing media about the proceedings of the committee meeting, stated that the electronic voting machines are to be experimented during the bye-election. Already, a committee was working under Arif Alvi on the agenda of EVM, biometrics and voting rights to overseas Pakistanis.

The UNDP has appointed a consultant on the voting right to overseas Pakistanis who would submit report within six weeks, he added. The ECP is expected to furnish report in next committee meeting on the nullification of election on the basis of apex court's decision.

Interacting with the media, Minister of State for Information Technology, Anusha Rehman stated that NADRA has decided on the measures to secure voters data through biometrics system as suggested by the IT ministry. NADRA, ECP and IT ministry would soon finalize the technical aspects of biometrics mechanism.

Procurement of the biometrics machines would be done through open tenders and the ECP would use it on experimental basis.
