United Kingdom : BDUK starts consultation on new and enhanced procurement process

Publish Date : 29-Jan-2016

As the BDUK has sought feedback on a new and enhanced approach to the way the tenders will be handled, local authorities and broadband operators interested in getting on with more broadband roll-out using public subsidy have an opportunity to influence how the procurement will operate.

The new approach results from a discussion with the EU to get new State Aid Approval in place (earlier approval ran out in June 2015) and for those waiting on the second phase roll-out in Devon and Somerset this is viewed as increasingly urgent if two county councils go with central approval, or they can go it alone and operate outside the BDUK frameworks.

Responses by email or post will have to be in by February 24, 2016.

This is just about the way the framework will operate, not what providers will provide.

A broader set of funding models are being considered, along with the option to allow non open-access model to secure a tender if there are no qualifying open-access bids.
