Nigeria : Benue State Government to domesticate Public Procurement Act

Publish Date : 30-Jan-2016

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Targema Takema, has announced that as a tool to deal with corruption in the civil service, Benue State Government is planning to domesticate the Public Procurement Act.

Takema said the government would use the law for sanctioning corrupt officials.

The SSG accused that "over 70 percent of revenues earned in this state by the past administration were stolen" as the government failed to deal with corrupt public officials.

The SSG said the government of Gov. Samuel Ortom was creating ways to block revenue leakages and guarantee transparency in the conduct of state affairs for efficient service delivery.

He added that the government had launched a review of the land administration in the state in order to make it people oriented and generate more revenue.

Takema disclosed that the government had also reorganized tax administration, to expand its revenue base.

He assured people of the state that the government would meet expectations despite the mounting challenges that the state is facing.
