Venezuela : Centered and standardized system for public procurement enters force in Venezuela

Publish Date : 02-Feb-2016

As part of the government's efforts to address the economic emergency, a centered and standardized system for public procurement has entered force in Venezuela.

Speaking about the Decree 2198, passed last Tuesday, the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro, said the step will favor first the social and communal scale, that of small and medium-scale private, mixed and socialist sector.

He also insisted to convene all industries and the global capital to meet the goods and services needed for the public procurement.

The president said the initiative came from the permanent working groups that are consolidated into the management of the National Council of Economy Production, which aims to fulfill the growing demands of the population, the social achievements and to overcome the oil rentier model he considered exhausted.

He further recalled that the new system should consider the identification of a dozen lines of action, called engines, aimed at stimulating national contribution in strategic sectors like unconventional exports, the agribusiness, mining, fishing, forestry, petrochemicals and tourism, among others.

In this regard, Maduro urged the private sector to work to build a productive, social and integrated economic model.
